Well since January 2nd (aka my last post) I have run 41 miles! crazy to think of, huh? Is that possible? GULP! So far in 2009 I have run 41.07 miles! That is nuts!! I ran say 52 miles in December in total! (I did have a bug for a week though!)
Last night I did 12 miles on the treadmill- this was my second long run on the treadmill (prev week I did 11 miles) and it's not that bad. I change treadmills pretty often and reset my treadmill if there are no better options available. It's tricky to stay entertained but overall not as bad as I imagined initially. I also got a HRM for Xmas from Felix which has been great! yesterday I ran for 2 hrs 21min (crazy!) and burned about 1600 calories-- which means my intake needs to be around 3400 given a BMR of 1850 (which I feel probably has risen since Sept when I went but whatever). Yesterday I consumed 2200 which is a huge deficit and probably is contributing to my headache today. It's hard to eat so much without eating fries or chocolate or something, and yes, I eat nuts and avocado daily at this point. The scale hasnt budged more than a pound but it has moved which means I'm not in starvation mode- good job me.
I skipped and have been skipping our outdoor workouts. It's been freezing- 20 degrees on Saturdays and rainy and icky on Tuesday nights with wind gusts to 40 mph and an overall wind chill adjusted temp of under 30. Uhm, no thanks. So I have made peace with the treadmill. This week I still need to get about 10 more miles in. I'm thinking a 6 mile run on Saturday and 4 or 5 in my hills treadmill workout I need to do Thursday before I go to dinner with friends.
This has been really tough. Tougher than I thought it would be. It's hard to constantly and consistently choose running over going out or drinking or not sleeping. It's hard to manage. So far with the exception of the stomach bug (which really shouldnt count) I have not skipped a run. I don't intend to either for the aforementioned reasons, only for sickness or injury.
I do need to up my other workouts. Sometimes I've only ran 3x a week and I need to keep a day of yoga and a day of weights. I'm goign to have to go to yoga studios vs just equinox to get the most flexibility. Tonight is my first scheduled class at yogaworks- we'll see. They have Ivengar vs. Vinyasa so that should be helpful. I definitely notice a difference when I have been to yoga.
On the fundraising front I've raised $2,000. I need $600 more. I thnk Nicole and I are going to have a fundraiser- we've been, and will continue to, bust our butts and our friends need to drink to that.
Peace out.

Happy New Year!!
This week is going great so far in terms of running. I ran 5.39m of intervals on Tuesday (treadmill, not park though bc it was supposed to be 40 mph winds and I dont see why I should subject myself to that!!!!) was a great work out. I don't seem to mind the treadmill as much if we're doing intervals... it's steady running that seems to get old. I did 2 min fast, 2 uber slow- 5x then a regular run for 5 min and then intervals again. NYE I also managed to get a recovery 2 mile run in. Hoping to do that same on Sunday. Saturdays run will be 9.5 or 10 miles in the park. I'm thinking 2 4 mile loops and a reservoir one. We shall see tomorrow. I need to get some new music- It's getting really old really fast.

Christmas Week Tear up
Why the title? because i really followed through. From Monday the 22 through Sunday the 28th I worked out 5 times and ran 3 times. Pretty damned good- especially for Christmas week.
Christmas eve I ran a solid 5.25 mile loop by my moms house and ran 4 minutes faster than I had over thanksgivign--- and wasn't pushing it. Was a nice surprise. Christmas Day I ran a short and light 2.62 miles ( I really couldnt resist since it was 48 out and sunny!!! in December!!!) Saturday I ran with Team in Training and did 2 loops of the 4 mile course in Central Park. It wasn't that cold out (probably about 38 and 80% humidity) so it was nice... I ran the second loop about a minute faster whcih isnt that much of an improvement but was still positive so I'll take it. I ran without my cap (Nova) the 2nd loop and ran alone which might attribute the slightly faster speed but I was a bit too cold. (note to self, keep cap). Still 8 miles is 8 miles and it's the longest I've run since the half on October 2nd and I didn't struggle really at all which was a nice surprise given the ridiculous amount of bad runs I've had lately.
The goal this week is to run 3x like usual. It's tough with New Yrs though. Today I want to go to body conditioning from 6-7 so I might try an easy 2 mile run afterwards. Tomorrow is TnT and it looks like we're doing effort levels in the park. Wenesday is NYE so I am not sure about running and Thursday is clearly out... which is problematic because Saturday I need to run 9.5 miles... if not 10. So I'm missing my 3rd day. I might try and run tonight a 4 mile run to make up for it? Not sure. We'll see.

Stomach bug
So the holidays arent always great for exercise, and more so the week of the 15th when on Tuesday I got a stomach bug and missed work Wednesday, didnt eat Tues, Wed or Thurs and then recovered slightly Friday and Saturday.
I skipped the team in training runs both Tues and Sat and only ran that Sunday... so 4 miler then a week off. That Sunday (the 21st) I ran 5 miles. I should really put run in quotes bc it was such a terrible treadmill run. I was dizzy, exhausted and meant to do more, but oh well. You have to listen to your body right?

So I've been a bit distracted... My last post was after my terrible 10-k run. Thankfully things have looked up since.
Last Tuesday we ran 3.7 miles in the park in 12 min intervals separated by 12 min of squats and lunges- killer. 13 min miles...
Last Thursday I ran 3 miles in the morning (that's all my schedule permitted!!!) which was kinda of lame and I'm still pretty slow in the am. 11 min miles...
Then there was Saturday! I managed to not go out on Friday (which was easy because I was sick w a stomach bug on Thursday night and skipped work Friday) and ran a freaking amazing 4 miler. I ran with Nicole (my running partner in crime) and we ran the 4 mile center Central Park loop in 41:27. Which is a vast improvement over my last 2 4milers this summer at 44:45 and 43:45 respectively (embarassing!!) Our splits were 11:00, 10:46, 10:22 and 9:22! We really sped up and I'm proud of the negative splits big time. My next 4 miler is in February I think and I hope to break 40 min.
After the run (which, was freezing btw- 32 degrees but felt more like 18 with the wind!! esp as we came around the fields in CP) I went to brunch with my mentor and some other mentees. My mentor qualified for Boston and I kinda wish I had a slower mentor- isn't that terrible? She ran the marathon in 3:30 I think.... YIKES!
Tonight there's another CP run. It's supposed to snow. Wonderful.

ANOTHER bad run?

So Sunday was a 10-k in the Park. I flubbed this one by going out to dinner on Friday (which, for the record was wonderous and the place is highly recommended- http://www.masfarmhouse.com/) and then going out to Amy's birthday and then again out after. I didn't get in the door until after 4 am... BAD idea if you intend to run in the freezing weather 24 hours later. I didn't eat a ton on Saturday and mainly cat napped. I overslept Sunday am and took a CAB to the race (how freaking embarrassing!!!!) and still barely made it. We ran counter clockwise too which never seems to work for me!!! I do much better clockwise.
I ran the shittiest race ever- EVER. 12:25 minute miles. I was nauseated, cold, then hot, lead legs. Basically everything that could've gone wrong (short of something major) did.
For the record a speed walker, a person on crutches and a man with one arm 'beat' me. Demoralizing I tell you.
