Yoga Schmoga

Well today I wanted to sleep in but instead i went to yoga. I was so amazingly tired yesterday. I did have a glass of wine with my dinner (frozen veggie dumplings from Trader Joes- delicious and like 5 cents each of something insane.) The yoga class was a decent class- except at the end everyone ignored shavasana and left. Ugh. People- you're not as quiet as you think. Why can't you just lay there and rest and seal your practice for three freakign minutes. It's also just rude. I was mildly annoyed to say the least. THEN I realized I didnt have what I needed to shower at the gym (missing one key item, rhymes with draw) so I had t ohead home which meant I would most likely be late to work- awesome! Happy Tuesday to me.

However, despite the subway doors slamming in my face 2x (yes, 2x) and the connector bus (which I take only when I'm late- otherwise I walk the 0.5m) leaving me with dust in my face (proverbial not real), I was still on time to work. How does that happen?

The workplan (please note the lack of running- my shin is bothering me so I figured spin was a better option this week pre half as to not aggravate it further):

Today- eat healthy i had a banana and a bar this am and im having a wrap w egg whites now. ill have yogurt as a snack pre lunch. lunch w be the cold bar from across the street- asparagus, mango, avocado, greens. snack will be almonds. dinner will be 1 glass of champers and something semi healthy bc im going out.

Tomorrow- its an ambitious plan. 615 spin. 7am trainer. busy day of meetings.
Thursday- there is yoga in the am i'd love to get to.

Friday- i could use another spin class- not a super tough one either...

Saturday- off day

Sunday- half marathon.

Well I was meant to run....

I had 4m worth of hills on the calendar this am. When my alarm went off at 6:01 am I seriously groaned. As in super unhappy to be awake kind of groan.

I was super sleepy, super tired, kinda lethargic, so I settled on a solid 40 min on the elliptical (by the time I got to the gym it was 6:20 yikes!). I did 30 min with my trainer which was a solid workout. I was impressed. I did suitcase squats (think squats, but as if you have two briefcases (weights) on your sides, that you're picking up between squats (although you dont put the weights down in between)) with 25 lb kettlebells in each hand. I was very impressed I was able to do that. Right? 50 lbs is a lot for a girl? If I was doing it myself, I certainly wouldve been using 12 lb weights, MAX.

So, that's that. So far I have worked out 145 min this week, nearly 1/2 of my 300 min weekly goal. Because I know the 15k will take around 100 minutes this weekend, I have 55 left to meet my goal. I hope Saturday I can head to yoga and I intend to work out both Thursday and Friday (hey, on the biggest loser they get no breaks!!!) Bad idea? Maybe Friday I will sleep in. Who knows.

Weekend Update

I was wonderfully excited to be able to do my long run after work on Friday. However, I was delayed about 40 min getting out the door and only was able to run 9.3m before I had to call it a day because of dinner plans.

I was a bit bummed because I wouldve preferred to get in 11ish miles but at the end of the day, I'm running to be in shape not to break any world records so that mile isnt going to make or break me.

I slept amazingly on Friday after a wonderful dinner and wine with my boyfriend and friends. Saturday we had a great day and I made it to an hour of condititioning at a gym I had never been to (always fun). It was a great workout weekend with great weather.

This week I need to focus on my intake. I indulged quite a bit this weekend in wine and risotto and other yummy things (although I did have fish both nights and egg whites in the am's but still). The schedule:
Tonight: 4m and maybe even yoga (ambitious?)
Tomorrow: trainer in the am
Wednesday: trainer in the am, yoga in the pm
Thursday: run hills
Friday: weights/yoga
Saturday: weights/yoga
Sunday: 15k

another recap

Last Wednesday was an off day for me. Last Thurs am I ran yassos at the gym. Lame yassos, but yassos none the less. I only had time for 3 repeats in order to include a proper cooldown and I ran at a 9:40 pace whereas I used to do yassos at a 9 min pace. The good news is that I was not breathing hard and was not breathing out of my mouth- a nice surprise.

Friday I made it to a 60min yoga class before dinner which was nice. Yesterday was my long run day. I ran 10m in the park. Well ran/walked but still 10m is 10m. I am not sore today (well not yet anyway). Today I am taking a soulbands class at soul cycle which is a cult like spin class in NYC.

If I am bored later I might also hit up yoga.

An Update

Well. On Tuesday I ran 3.75m at the gym and watched Jeopardy during, which was nice.

Wednesday I forgot I had a running date with my boss and we ran/walked (hey it's career development as well) for about 3.5m...

Today, I took a pass. It wasnt realistic and I was getting sleepy from so much running around.

Tomorrow- I am running my 5-6m run... I think I'll stick to 5 this week. Don't push it although my body feels fine. I do think the iron supplement helps in terms of feeling really worn down.

Saturday- yoga in the pm.
Sunday- Spin
Monday- weights and perhaps an easy run depending on weather/time/life

That's all I'm planning for now...

clearly i do better when im in a team environment

I wonder how I was so motivated during my first half marathon. Perhaps the thrill of it? Perhaps I was just bored and had nothing else to do? Perhaps it was the summer?

I am so not motivated to run it's almost comical.

I'm at my heaviest weight, I hate the winter, I don't have any urge to run WHATSOEVER.

The MORE half is April 3rd. I am ridiculous amounts behind and I know when that happens all you need to do it stick to a schedule and GO, but I'm finding that to be oh so dificult with an increasingly challenging work schedule and a very demanding life in general. I have my plan for the week in terms of running- I will run tonight, I will run Friday, I will run Sunday, but its somewhat dificult to be able to lay that all out. I feel as if I am struggling and it's unclear why I am struggling. Perhaps having a blog and being more accountable will help if I start really writing again. Perhaps just sticking to the schedule (which I have btw and it's not that aggresive, given that I have that base we all need- it might not be a super active base but I have the lung capactiy and general aerobic capacity- that's for sure. I could go out and run 6m right now which I feel is 'good enough' I think inherently my problem is I really dislike winter. I do not handle lack of sunshine well and when you couple it with the insane stress at work and longer hours, its a cluster-F.

How do I motivate myself again?

Let's try accountability. Hold me to it. Yell at me (but be nice when it doesnt work for real reasons!) and the like, come on! I'm begging you!!

sunday- (past-idc I'm writing about it) Kettlehell
Monday- skip. It wasnt a rest day. It was a legit skip/rearrange, happens, right?
Tuesday- run 4m
Wednesday- Weights if I can wake up, otherwise rest day
Thursday- Spin in the am (would have to be 615 spin so perhaps I am kidding myself)
Friday- run in the pm- 3-4m (will be running with someone faster- so will be like a tempo run)
Saturday- yoga and weights
Sunday- run- 5-6m depending on weather
Monday- something and spa day. YUM

Long time between posts

Well, the resolutioners are still going strong- its pretty impressive I must say. Good for them. We're a healthy bunch here on the UWS.

I've ran a few times since the 19th... maybe 2x? 3x? I finally ran 3x last week which felt great. Was a super stressful time at work.  I've been working ridiculous hours (12-13-14 etc) with no mental breaks etc. There has been some drama too so its been uber exhausting. To add to it I've been traveling so it's been a lot. I've been sticking to it and made it to the gym 5x last week, 3 running, 2 yoga and did weights once. They weren't the most quality workouts but they were workouts nonetheless.

This weeks plan:
Mon & Tues- I was in Boston, busy, no workouts, meeting all day!!!
Wednesday- I meant to run but the good treadmills were taken. I ran/walked up hills for 28 minutes and then did the ARC trainer for 12 minutes. I meant to stretch yet all the Resolutioners were hogging the stretch areas. Instead I did nothing and walked home and started this.
Thursday- Up early for weights :) ARMS and ABS and some other cardio circuit things. We shall see. I'm on a tight time schedule as I have to be at work relatively early.... so we shall see.

The remainder of the week is up in the air because I go and get my foot cut up tomorrow. Well we'll see. I can't tell if its better/worse, idk. So we'll see. If the foot is fine then Saturday will be running/spin, Sunday will be yoga and Friday will be spin and or weights. If my foot is cut up, then Friday will be stretch/arms/abs and Saturday might be rest with Sunday being something not stressful- we shall see. I am traumatized from last time when I really hurt my leg after hobbling all over. We shall see.

Running plans:
Next wkd: Gridiron- except now I am meant to go out to dinner Saturday night. UGH.

Weight/Eating
Weight is up/steady. I think stress isnt helping. Eating has been OK but I need to start the clean biz again.

double yoga equals fail

So, while I did make it to yoga last night, I didn't stay for the second class. Instead I made an appetizer for this weekend's party. So I suppose, net net I did OK.

I slept in this am for spin (yoga makes me legs feel so heavy! I'ts like the class works muscles spin doesn't- which I know it does, but it's pretty funny to me) but will go this pm. I hope. The class I want to attend is full at the moment. So we'll see.

I have a busy work week too so I might just go do elliptical.

Le sigh.  I have the winter blues.

Monday, December 6, 2010

I didn't leave the office until about 8 pm on Friday. Scrapped the workout and we had pizza and wine. Saturday I went to vinyasa yoga and yesterday i skipped the 10k and instead went and did 25 min of cardio and 15 min of weights. I'm not sure why I skipped the run save to say I was tired and wanted to sleep in. The race was at 8 am which is early for winter. I like the 10 am starts, i can't lie!

Whats missing? Oh!!! Running. Yes, well running and I, idk. I didn't make it out this wkd. We were busy Sat during the entire day at a family event and didn't get home until 11 pm. I couldve done the 10k Sunday (Joe Kleinerman- even picked up the shirt) but somehow I preferred to sleep in.

Last week I was dying to run. This weekend I couldn't motivate- whats wrong here?!

I am in a slump for sure. Although you'd think the 15k in 2 weekends or the half in January would be motivating me. Nope!! I'm struggling with running the 15k. It's my 9th race and I already volunteered back in February. I don't want to qualify for NYC. I am afraid I'll register and I do want to stick to my guns and give myself a year off of training. I really do want to get faster. I really do. I am afraid if I train for the 15k (train being an objective word here) I will get suckered into it. The benefits of running the 15k? 1) fitness, 2) the ability to have a base time and compare not only next year but in March at the colon cancer 15k. I thought that made sense?

Thoughts?

This week (a preview):
Tonight: double yoga- hatha flow and slow flow
Tues: Spin- already signed up
Wed: yoga- vinyasa
Thurs- run- mid day?
Friday- am weights
Sat- am run
Sun- gloriously off.

Yoga and a spin?

Well after what feels like forever I finally made it to spin class this am and yoga last night. It always makes me giggle when I go to the gym 2x from when I leave work to when I walk in the next day. That's mildly obsessed right? Or is it normal?

I can't really decide what 'normal' is. Obviously I realize to each their own but what do the majority of semi active people do? I tend to work out 6-7x a week when I was training and think I will settle on 4-5x a week now. That's some serious working out right? Or no?

I still havent really run. BORING. I am dying to. Who knew? I am supposed to go to the doc on Thursday and we'll see if I am in the clear to run. If so I intend to run (no joke) 8-10 on Saturday. Get it out of my system!!! Well let's aim for 6 at least! I have that 15k i signed up for but now obviously it won't be a race. That is what it is. Why even do it then? Unclear.

In other news I wish NYRR would post next years schedule.
