I ran 5 mile intervals yesterday. So basically I did a warm up mile then did 800m (1/2m) intervals between 9:30 and 10:15/10:30 and then did a cool down mile at 10:30/11. I did stop and rest a few breathes here and there- but overall it was a good run.
It's really the first time I've done intervals since years ago when I used to try to get through a mile or two by running 0.1 and then walking 0.1. I've come a long way since. The treadmill wasn't too bad last night. Was almost like the difference in speeds keep me motivated and let me break the run down into 0.5 sections... which I've realized is super important.
I think tonight I might try and run a mile or two quite slowly- just for mileage. Saturday is our first Team in Training run in Central Park at 8:30 am. Say good bye to my Friday nights for the next 5 months!!!

making progress.
Ran 3 miles last night on the treadmill at the gym. This was the best treadmill run I've had in a while... sometimes I can zone out and sometimes I can't. This time I finally could.
Tonight I'm meeting the other Team in Training people for a meet and greet- If you can believe it I am nervous! I mean everyone is slightly nutty for running a marathon, don't you think?
Wish me luck!

my first 5 miles after deciding to run
It's amazing how 5 miles can feel so different in different situations. Some days when it's a slow and steady run with no regard to time, 5 miles can be relaxing (case in point my trail run over the bridle path last Sunday- took an hour but it was so nice and quiet and wonderous). 5 miles when it's a timed tempo run on the treadmill it can be terrible. Especially since I hate the treadmill. I found myself getting nervous but pushing myself harder last night- knowing that I have a long term goal I think will be helpful. I know already that I need to push myself a bit harder as I am rarely out of breath when I run (hello- PROBLEM!!)
There's a 4 mile week today is CP this Sunday- Race to Deliver benefiting God's Love to Deliver which provides meals to men, women and children dealing with illness in and around NYC. My last 2 4 miler races have been terrible... The course is always the same... the middle loop in CP...43:45 and 44:43; that's a 10:56 pace and 11:10 pace respectively. My goal for this race is to run in 42 minutes- a 10:30 pace. Totally doable since I ran a 10-k in July at a 10:20 pace...
Wish me luck!

First Day
Last night I signed up for Team in Training... I didn't even mean to but the story told by the cancer survivor made me cry and I couldn't resist. I was going to be rational and wait a day or two but the last person to speak during the presentation talked about how she listened to the presentation 6 years ago and went home to think about it and waited a year to finally sign up.
I didn't want that to be me.
So, here I am. 171 days until I attempt to run 26.2 miles. I suppose I should start out positive and say--- 171 days until I RUN my first marathon.
Here goes nothing!!
