for one fleeting second tonight i thought about signing up to run another marathon. WHAT is wrong with me?!?
so it's official. i will pick a half marathon to run in april/may/june. long enough to train and potentially get better/faster and then also enough time so that if they cut into my foot in 10 days i have enough time to heal. clearly need to work on speed.
april/may/june goals (perhaps i'll run 2?) will be a solid 2:12. i think i can do it

Running
Last night I was frozen from being outside for 5 min ('feels like 5' source: weatherchannel.com) but went to the gym just because I was getting a massage later on and couldn't go home. I thought I would run 2-3m, stretch, steam and shower before a leisurely dinner and perhaps a mani. Instead, I got on the treadmill and ran 6 miles. I haven't run that often whatsoever since the marathon. I ran 2m on Monday, 2x I ran 4-5m with my boss and 4m the week after the marathon. That is 4x in 10 weeks- pathetic. Last night when I was on the treadmill (WAAAAY too cold for outside) I honestly felt alive. I felt like I felt better than I have in months. I felt like I was powerful, calm and able to conquer whatever I may need to do.
I need to get a plan and stick with it related to running. While I know its nuts I think I might run the More half marathon. I know its 2 laps in the park but it's also familiar stomping ground. I loved the Manhattan half because you know what to expect and can practice there. Another idea is the NJ Shore half but that's way more complicated.
foot is status quo- may be dug up next week. gross.
Nothing else to report- fun weekend coming up. I hope to make it to the gym today. Waiting on a delivery though...

Gym day #2
I made it to the gym this am.
My hobbling is minimized after a 75 massage session yesterday. Phew. Hobbling gets old quick my friends.
Today I have real sneakers on, no more pretending with pumas and the like. Full on stability sneaks. Hello- these got me through hundreds of miles of runs, how DARE I toss them aside when I need them most. Fact: I dont think my leg wouldve been so sore/tight had I worn my real sneaks to start with. Lesson learned. Hey, at least no blisters!
So back to the gym. Just a 25 min session with arms, some abs and some squats. Lunges are too much for the foot. I am going back this pm for a 60 min cardio session on the elliptical/stepper/arc machine and bike. Tomorrow more than likely I will go to yoga in the pm post all day photog class and Sunday pre Three Kings Celebratory brunch (yes its a real holiday!! ) I will make it to the gym for weights.
Solid 4 days of work outs (kinda) with major dieting (save Sunday) should result in......... you've got it- weight loss.
We shall see. Marginal movement down then back up. LE sigh.

The Foot
So as runners we know our footsies are important.
As my blog readers you know I've had quite a few foot ailments. All topical (thankfully), but issues nonetheless.
This summer I was plagued by blisters. PLAGUED. Blister after blister, on top of blisters etc. Terrible. Who knew that one day of cotton socks would send me into a downward spiral for a month!
This late summer/early fall I was plagued by plantars warts. These little suckers went undiagnosed on my foot for almost a year (mainly because of winter and other blisters). I went to a podiatrist as soon as I realized it was a plantars wart and there are three methods of treatment as follows:
First-line therapy Over the counter salicylic acid
Second-line therapy Cryosurgery, intralesional immunotherapy, or pulsed dye laser therapy
Third-line therapy Bleomycin, surgical excision
I am now on third-line therapy... this will happen either next week or the week after. For now, I have a third degree burn on the bottom of my foot which is what the podiatrist did to try and shrink the warts pre surgical excision. GROSS.
Long story short- My foot is en fuego. Somehow 'on fire' doesn't do it justice!
I am still intent on working out today. Arms/Abs/Squats/Lunges. I think I can do some circuit training although I'm not looking to battle the crowds at the gym. I did 30-day Shred on Monday and took yesterday off because of the foot. I'm scheduled to run tomorrow and think I can wrap it and make it happen. We shall see.
So far- 2 lbs lost on this weight lost quest. 10 lbs to go!

Welcome 2011
Where have I been?
Around. Not running. It really is unclear to me why I have this mental block against running. Except I do, and I have since 12/21. I am determined to run today, albeit at the gym.
I have my foot surgery tomorrow. God help me. I might be off my feet for a week. EW! I am ignoring that tidbit.
My resolutions (non-running):
1) Eat clean this month, start the month off right
2) work out 4-5x a week, no excuses
3) have a positive (or net positive) body image
My running goals/resolutions:
1) Run a half in 2:10
2) Run a 10k in less than 1 hour
3) Run a 4m race in 34 minutes.
Upcoming races:
Jan 22- Manhattan half- unclear how this is possible given I havent run since 12/22 and at that only 5 m. NEXT.
Feb 6- Gridiron- Silly me wants to PR (PR 11/2009 38:11)
March 27- 15k. Goal time: under 100 min

oh baby its cold outside
it's freezing! went for a run in the park with my boss. 5.15m give or take with some walk breaks. 57:28 and we walked up two hills. It's my longest run since the marathon. Was a hard run but I think the weather, wind, diet and hard weights workout (my legs were pulsating this am) had a lot to do with that as well.
We ran a 5m loop of the park almost in its entirety and then ran a quick errand on our way back to the office.
While I feel pressure during these runs a) to run and b) to not take a break, I appreciate that this is something the senior female partner in the firm WANTS to do with me and NO ONE else. I like that. I refuse to let that drop. I will run if it kills me!
Today was tough. Our admin ordered a sandwich for a lunch meeting for me with peppers. Peppers and I are not friends. As in enemies. Peppers destroy my stomach. I burp uncontrollably. Awesome. It's quite disgusting and ironic as I have no idea why this is. Anyway- made the run a bit uncomfortable but I made it through.
Off to shower (at the office) before dinner with a friend. Viva la run!

Thurs-Monday am: a Recap
The end of last week and the weekend just flew by. Who knew?
Wednesday night was our holiday party. I didn’t drink but stayed way too late. Thursday I slept in. Thursday night I got in bed uber early and got a lot of rest. No workout. Yikes. Friday am I dragged my butt out of bed for 25 min of arms/abs and a few squats/lunges for good measure. Friday pm we had a holiday party at a fancy-schmancy stuffy restaurant in Midtown. The food was OK and I didn’t overeat (although I did have a piece of bread and 2 glasses of wine).
Saturday we went down to my mom’s house for some annual family traditions. They’re fun and I love my family. We also did a mock Xmas Eve afterwards since, for the first time, I won’t be spending Xmas with my family. It was wonderful. Driving back I was exhausted though and went right to sleep at 9 pm
Sunday I woke up early but didn’t make it to the gym until much later in the day (comparably). I had eaten a lot of junk Saturday at mock Xmas Eve that I felt lethargic and generally unhappy. I ran 3.5m after deciding to not run the Ted Corbitt 15K. I know, I know. I just didn’t want to get sucked into the NYCM disease I have. I do not want to run. I want to watch. I want to enjoy the day. I want to get faster. I decided against qualifying at all. I will pick some key races this year and will requalify for 2012 in case I want to. Right now NYCM2011 is off the table. I feel a bit relieved which means I made the right decision.
My 3.5m run was on the treadmill. I haven’t been running a lot lately and I haven’t been treadmill running in forever- probably since Vegas (sept) in any sort of length. I despised it. It felt like time was passing oh so slowly! Overall I was fine though. This am I made it to the gym for a 40 min circuit workout which was pretty good. My weight is up huge which is quite depressing. I intend to go to yoga tonight and then on a 6m run tomorrow with my boss which should be ‘fun’. The only benefit is that I get to go during work hours and that it gives us quality time together which I wouldn’t normally get. We hope to go about 1x a week for the undefined future. That’s a huge help in getting me to run. I have to be able to keep up. I think as I settle into a schedule I will run 2-3x a week. Once with the boss and once on the weekend (longer ranging 6-10m depending). The one other time will vary. Sometimes speed work, sometimes hills. We shall see.
I need an event. Anyone got one? April? May? Something fun?
