another recap

Last Wednesday was an off day for me. Last Thurs am I ran yassos at the gym. Lame yassos, but yassos none the less. I only had time for 3 repeats in order to include a proper cooldown and I ran at a 9:40 pace whereas I used to do yassos at a 9 min pace. The good news is that I was not breathing hard and was not breathing out of my mouth- a nice surprise.

Friday I made it to a 60min yoga class before dinner which was nice. Yesterday was my long run day. I ran 10m in the park. Well ran/walked but still 10m is 10m. I am not sore today (well not yet anyway). Today I am taking a soulbands class at soul cycle which is a cult like spin class in NYC.

If I am bored later I might also hit up yoga.

Another run, another notch

Last night was my easy 3m run on the treadmill. I"m really getting over the treadmill runs but  I was laid up all day with a sore/hurt back. The running didnt hurt it (common question) but didn't help as much as I wouldve liked either. Sometimes it helps, sometimes not as much. I did wear my older running shoes which is a big no no and I felt the difference in my knee for sure.

I did yoga Sunday night- Loved the class- that was a nice surprise. I had been to so many 'meh' classes that I get turned off of trying new ones- silly me! I loved the kettlehell class and I loved this yoga so thats 2 classes of the say 4 I've tried this year- not too bad!!!

This week's schedule:
tonight- perhaps pilates with a friend and some weights
tomorrow- might have to be off- work starts at 730 and wont end before 8 pm- AND i need an off day this week
thursday- speed work. Yasso's I'm thinking... starting with 5...
friday- yoga/weights?
saturday- 8-9m runs. I ran 7.75m on saturday but was meant to run 7ish. The half is in 4 weeks (yikes) and that was my longest run yet
sunday- soul cycle with bands (scary!!!)

I don't have a speed goal for this half. sad but true. I think I will look to conquer the Bronx half again this year. it IRKS me that it went so shitty last year when I was perfectly trained... damned precursor to the marathon. We shall see. I might sign up for Phila in Sept as well...

Next race: 15k Colon Cancer Challenge on 3/27...
Upcoming longer runs:
Sat 3/5- 9
Sat 3/12- 10
Sat 3/19- 11
Sun 3/27- 11ish (or should I just run the 9.3?)
Sun 4/3- more half

This week: a Recap

Well this week I ran 2 cheap miles Tuesday and 3.75 with 2 @10 min pace on Thursday. Today I went out to run 7m and I ended up with 7.75m which would explain why I was so lethargic in the middle- with only 1 gel and an upset stomach in place- it wasnt my best run by any means but it was not the worst ever (hey at least I didnt throw up!!!)

I was meant to meet a friend at engineers gate and I'm not sure how I missed her.

I ran from my apt to Engineers gate counter clockwise and waited for 20 min. I am really still in awe how we missed each other. What did people do without cell phones- it mustve been this way often!

I then ran clockwise on the 4 mile loop but on 97th street, down arou nd and back to 97th street. I stopped quite a bit to walk and to use the restroom- ugh. I ran back to 102 up east drive and then decided not to do harlem hill which was a good idea since i ran 7.75m in total and only wanted to run 7m. Adding in the harlem hill piece wouldve been at least 8.5m and that's a huge jump from my 5.5m last week!!

Overall I feel OK. Just my stomach.

Gorgeous day to run and def the right decision to rest yesterday!

Happy wkd!

A longer-ish run

I ran 5.4m in the park today. My 'longest' run lately. Wasnt a hard run per se. More convincing myself I wanted to run. Stomach wasnt the happiest either but overall was great to get out there, mainly because the weather was fabulous. I love running when its 60 degrees out. I really do. It was 66 as I hit the CNN sign coming off Tavern on the Green. Fabulous running night.

So 5.4m isnt huge but it's certainly notable given this is my second week in a very long time since I've run 3x a week. No pain, a tight IT band, but given my foot issues, seems par for the course.

Today's eating was atrocious. Dried mango for breakfast. A bagel from Essa (delish) and a half a bagel for snack. A non meat salad (with avocado) and no dressing for a late lunch and then a half a bagel for snack. I scarfed down a chobani yogurt when I got back from a run and ordered chana masala and a veggie samosa (bad!!) for dinner. carb-o-rific. Hello 5 lbs, nice to meet you. How I do enjoy carrying you around my waist lately. Sigh. Clearly I shouldnt be snacking on bagels. I mean. I ate like 900 calories in bagels today. What in the heck!? Overall not a bad calorie day so far- 1400 so with dinner probably still under 2000 which is fine, but really, did I need to snack on that bagel?

Tomorrow is yoga in the pm. Sunday is spin. Monday will be weights and a light run.

C'est tout. I am working late tonight. YAY. (Sarcarsm)

An Update

Well. On Tuesday I ran 3.75m at the gym and watched Jeopardy during, which was nice.

Wednesday I forgot I had a running date with my boss and we ran/walked (hey it's career development as well) for about 3.5m...

Today, I took a pass. It wasnt realistic and I was getting sleepy from so much running around.

Tomorrow- I am running my 5-6m run... I think I'll stick to 5 this week. Don't push it although my body feels fine. I do think the iron supplement helps in terms of feeling really worn down.

Saturday- yoga in the pm.
Sunday- Spin
Monday- weights and perhaps an easy run depending on weather/time/life

That's all I'm planning for now...

clearly i do better when im in a team environment

I wonder how I was so motivated during my first half marathon. Perhaps the thrill of it? Perhaps I was just bored and had nothing else to do? Perhaps it was the summer?

I am so not motivated to run it's almost comical.

I'm at my heaviest weight, I hate the winter, I don't have any urge to run WHATSOEVER.

The MORE half is April 3rd. I am ridiculous amounts behind and I know when that happens all you need to do it stick to a schedule and GO, but I'm finding that to be oh so dificult with an increasingly challenging work schedule and a very demanding life in general. I have my plan for the week in terms of running- I will run tonight, I will run Friday, I will run Sunday, but its somewhat dificult to be able to lay that all out. I feel as if I am struggling and it's unclear why I am struggling. Perhaps having a blog and being more accountable will help if I start really writing again. Perhaps just sticking to the schedule (which I have btw and it's not that aggresive, given that I have that base we all need- it might not be a super active base but I have the lung capactiy and general aerobic capacity- that's for sure. I could go out and run 6m right now which I feel is 'good enough' I think inherently my problem is I really dislike winter. I do not handle lack of sunshine well and when you couple it with the insane stress at work and longer hours, its a cluster-F.

How do I motivate myself again?

Let's try accountability. Hold me to it. Yell at me (but be nice when it doesnt work for real reasons!) and the like, come on! I'm begging you!!

sunday- (past-idc I'm writing about it) Kettlehell
Monday- skip. It wasnt a rest day. It was a legit skip/rearrange, happens, right?
Tuesday- run 4m
Wednesday- Weights if I can wake up, otherwise rest day
Thursday- Spin in the am (would have to be 615 spin so perhaps I am kidding myself)
Friday- run in the pm- 3-4m (will be running with someone faster- so will be like a tempo run)
Saturday- yoga and weights
Sunday- run- 5-6m depending on weather
Monday- something and spa day. YUM

BUMMER!

I didnt know about the Cupid 5k in Riverside park this weekend. WHAT A BUMMER! Part of the reason I moved to the UWS was to be closer to running activiites. After we moved I've promptly stopped running. Honest.

UGH.

Need to get out there.... MORE Half is in 6 weeks. YIKES. I've been running 2-3x a week 2-3m. WHOOPS.
